Protected ideas,
built into assets.

IP Venture Studio protects, develops and commercialises a portfolio of Australian inventions, software platforms and prototypes — taking each from protection, through evidence, to licence, sale or launch.

Exploded assembly diagram of the studio portfolio Six stacked components on a shared axis, each labelled with a portfolio category: public safety software, property and construction software, sports technology, building and trade tooling, a confidential development shown as a solid form because its detail is withheld, and a wider concept pipeline. [01] Thesis

A single invention is a coin toss.

Most inventions never reach a market. The ones that do usually fail on execution rather than on the idea — unprotected too long, unproven for too long, or funded past the point where the evidence stopped supporting them.

IP Venture Studio exists to apply the same discipline to a group of them. Ownership is documented before money is spent. Capital follows evidence rather than enthusiasm. And every asset faces the same question on a fixed cycle: has this earned the next stage?

The result is a portfolio built to be transactable — where each asset can be licensed, sold, spun out or launched on its own terms, without the ownership disputes that commonly derail early-stage inventions.

[02] Model

How the studio works

Five stages, applied to every asset.

The studio is a process, not a bet. Each asset moves through the same sequence, and nothing skips a stage because it feels promising.

01
Protect

Secure the intellectual property position before money is spent. Patents, applications, designs, trade marks and ownership documentation are registered and recorded first.

02
Validate

Establish whether a real market problem exists, who has it, and what they currently do instead. Assets that cannot demonstrate this do not proceed.

03
Prototype

Build the smallest thing that can genuinely be tested — a working prototype, a minimum viable product, a trade trial. Evidence is captured rather than asserted.

04
Partner

Bring in the parties who make an asset credible and fundable: research institutions, grant programs, industry partners, manufacturers and public-sector stakeholders.

05
Commercialise

Choose the right commercial model for the asset — licence, sale, franchise, spin-out or direct launch — rather than forcing every asset down the same path.

Assets are reviewed on a fixed cycle. Each is ranked on evidence, risk and commercial pathway. Assets meeting their milestones progress. Assets that do not are paused, restructured or sold. The discipline is the point.

[03] Portfolio

What the studio holds

A portfolio, described at a distance.

Several assets are protected, unfiled or progressing through approvals. What follows is the category, the stage and the commercial pathway. Detail is provided under agreement.

FIG. 01 In development

Public safety software

A bushfire awareness and evacuation platform built on physics-based fire behaviour and terrain-wind modelling, drawing on official agency incident feeds, satellite hotspot data and fire-weather conditions.

Pathway — public-sector partnership, licensing or procurement

FIG. 02 In development

Property & construction software

A platform addressing the cost, delay and uncertainty in residential renovation — faster quoting, clearer material decisions, and a vetted route to builders.

Pathway — launch, licence or strategic sale

FIG. 03 Prototype

Sports technology

A protected sports technology in prototype and validation, co-developed with an Australian university partner. Applications across coaching, performance feedback and equipment analytics.

Pathway — licence to sport bodies or equipment manufacturers

FIG. 04 Prototype

Building & trade tooling

A protected tool addressing a practical, recurring problem on site, at engineering and prototype stage ahead of trade trials.

Pathway — manufacturer licence, sale or joint venture

FIG. 05 Approvals

Confidential development

A registered Adelaide development in the health and tourism sector, progressing through approvals with stakeholder engagement underway. Described at a high level by design: further detail withheld is disclosed only under a signed confidentiality agreement.

Pathway — subject to approval

FIG. 06 Screening

Concept pipeline

A wider pipeline of identified opportunities held under screening, with a small number assessed as having significant commercial potential and prioritised accordingly.

Pathway — protection, scoping and grant preparation

Assets described on this page are at varying stages of development and protection. None is represented as commercially proven, and nothing here is an offer, an invitation, or a recommendation of any kind. See Important Information.

[04] Partners

Working with the studio

Some assets move fastest with the right partner.

Research capability, manufacturing reach, public-sector context or industry access — these are usually what turns a protected idea into a commercial one.

[A]

Government & public sector

Assets with public-safety and community relevance, engaged through appropriate procurement, grant and stakeholder pathways.

[B]

Research institutions

Co-development, prototype testing, independent validation and research outputs that give an asset technical credibility.

[C]

Manufacturers & licensees

Protected physical technologies at prototype stage, seeking licence, manufacture or distribution rather than a full in-house build.

[D]

Inventors & operators

People with a protectable idea and a real market problem behind it, looking for a structured route forward rather than a pitch competition.

[05] About

Origin

Built by an operator, not a fund.

The portfolio originates from problems observed in real markets — building sites, home modifications and disability services — rather than technology looking for a use.

IP Venture Studio was founded by Mark Gilbert, who established Adelaide building and home-modification firm All Build SA in 2019 after sixteen years as a building contractor. That work — NDIS home modifications, accessibility and mobility solutions delivered alongside occupational therapists and allied health professionals — is where most of the portfolio's problems were first identified.

The studio is the structure built around them: a way to protect what is worth protecting, fund what can be proven, and give each asset a commercial route of its own.
